Basketball Recap: Classical Comes Up Short

Classical was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a 62-12 loss at the hands of the Portsmouth Patriots. The contest marked the Purple's lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portsmouth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gyselle Mairs, who posted 13 points and five boards. What's more, Mairs also posted a 57% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Molly Hurd, who earned nine points and three steals.

Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Portsmouth, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Classical will face off against North Kingstown at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Portsmouth, they will square off against St. Mary Academy-Bay View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
