Basketball Recap: North Newton Comes Up Short

North Newton lost against Rossville back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The North Newton Spartans were dealt a 54-22 defeat at the hands of the Rossville Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Hornets are ranked 155th).

It was another big night for Ava Burkle, who went 6 for 15 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals for Rossville. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Vanderwall, who posted eight points in addition to seven steals and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for North Newton and nudges their season record down to 4-9. As for Rossville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4.

North Newton will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Tri-County at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Tri-County will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something North Newton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rossville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 51-35 victory against Winamac on the 3rd.
