Basketball Recap: Lincoln Northeast Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Grant Fredericks and Lazerek Houston

After flying high against Omaha Northwest last Tuesday, Lincoln Northeast came back down to earth. The Lincoln Northeast Rockets fell 83-75 to the Papillion-LaVista Monarchs on Friday. The Rockets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Monarchs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.

Lazerek Houston and Grant Fredericks certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Houston went 12-for-25 to rack up 33 points along with seven boards and five assists, while Fredericks went 6-for-12 on his way to 23 points and five rebounds. Houston's big performance that evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mowafag Abdalla, who posted eight points.

Papillion-LaVista's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sam Boudreau, who had 21 points and five boards. Papillion-LaVista is undefeated when Boudreau posts 20 or more points, but 9-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Garin Maley, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Lincoln Northeast's defeat dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Papillion-LaVista, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-10.

Lincoln Northeast does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Papillion-LaVista, they will look to defend their home court on March 1st against Omaha Central at 5:15 p.m. Papillion-LaVista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 games -- so hopefully Omaha Central likes a good challenge.
