Softball Recap: St. Charles Takes a Loss

St. Charles extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 1-6. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Thomas Stone Cougars. The result was an unpleasant reminder to St. Charles of the 15-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

As for Thomas Stone, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.

For Thomas Stone's part, Sophia Rogers made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned runs off eight hits. Those 17 strikeouts gave Rogers a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kimberly Brown was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Londyn Claros was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

St. Charles and Thomas Stone could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings. St. Charles (ranked 120th) will meet Leonardtown (ranked 35th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Thomas Stone will challenge Chopticon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (73 vs. 16).
