Softball Recap: Santa Fe Extends Winning Streak to Four

It's playoff time, and Santa Fe had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on Port Neches-Groves with a sharp 12-1 victory on Friday. Santa Fe might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by eight runs or more this season.

Carlie Hrncir tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Shelby Fraser and Lexi Platt did most of the damage at the plate: Fraser went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Platt got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Platt a new career-high. Madelyne Baulis was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Santa Fe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win (which was Santa Fe's fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-12. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Port Neches-Groves, their loss dropped their record down to 25-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Port Neches-Groves beat Santa Fe by a score of 5-4 later that day.
