Baseball Recap: New London Wins Going Away Against Mapleton

New London hadn't done well against Mapleton recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Mounties with a sharp 18-9 win. The Wildcats not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 14, 2024.

Joe Gum was incredible, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 3-for-5. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Mikai Phelps also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

New London always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory made it two in a row for New London and bumps their season record up to 2-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.0 runs over those games. As for Mapleton, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-6.

Coming up, New London will head out on the road to square off against Plymouth at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mapleton, they will be playing at home against Open Door Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mounties are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
