Softball Preview: Magnolia Sentinels vs. Los Amigos Lobos
The Magnolia Sentinels will venture away from home to face off against the Los Amigos Lobos at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Magnolia, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized Los Amigos' (thus far) undefeated season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Magnolia's offense. They lost 16-0 to Santa Ana on Monday. That's two games in a row now that the Sentinels have lost by exactly 16 runs.
Meanwhile, Los Amigos got the win against Corona del Mar on Friday by a conclusive 14-6. Considering the Lobos have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Sophia Gutierrez was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yvonne Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Leah Lemusu, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-4.
Magnolia's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Los Amigos, their record is now 6-0.
