Aubrey Bertrand made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luna Asencion, who scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Jayla Coleman, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.
Williston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chiefland only posted an OBP of .267.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Suwannee's offense. They lost 12-0 to Santa Fe on Friday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Suwannee saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Woods, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Williston picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-3. As for Suwannee, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Williston has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Suwannee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Williston's way against Suwannee in their previous meeting last Thursday, as Williston made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Williston since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
