Basketball Recap: Santa Rita Comes Up Short

Santa Rita lost against Duncan back in November of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Santa Rita Eagles were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 46-45 to the Duncan Wildkats.

Santa Rita lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being David Gonzales, who posted 18 points and six rebounds. Gonzales has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Vernon Johnson JR was another key player, going 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points and three steals.

Isaiah Sumner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Duncan, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Taygan Jensen, who went 6 for 15 en route to 14 points and five rebounds.

Santa Rita has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season. As for Duncan, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-13 record this season.

Santa Rita didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 77-47 loss against Morenci on the 3rd. Duncan has also already played their next game, a 62-44 defeat against Ray on the 31st.
