Softball Recap: Five Straight Road Victories for Southwood

Southwood had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Northfield on Monday. The Knights put the hurt on the Norsemen with a sharp 25-14 win. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Norsemen recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Natalie Sutphin made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 4-for-6. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Izzy Ashba, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Rylee Thomas, who scored four runs while going 4-for-5.

Southwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .615. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northfield only posted an OBP of .447.

Southwood pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Northfield, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Southwood will head out to face off against Wes-Del at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Northfield, they will host Southern Wells at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Norsemen are facing the Raiders at the right time seeing as the Raiders are stuck on a five-game losing streak.
