Basketball Recap: Chincoteague Comes Up Short

Chincoteague was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Wicomico Indians 59-20. The Ponies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-13.

Wicomico found their leader in freshman Trinity Purnell, who went 8 for 12 en route to 16 points and six steals. Purnell has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlisa Johnson, who posted 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Chincoteague's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Wicomico, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-2.

Chincoteague will take on Broadwater Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Wicomico, they will square off against Snow Hill at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Wicomico is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season.
