Softball Recap: Lake Wins High-Profile Game Against Dover

Lake faced Dover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Blue Streaks walked away with an 11-7 victory over the Crimson Tornadoes. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Streaks.

Peyton Ury spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Makenna Miller was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bri Handy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Lake hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.

Lake pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Dover, their defeat ended a 21-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-2.

Lake will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Green at 5:00 p.m. on the 29th. As for Dover, they will head out on the road to square off against Strasburg-Franklin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crimson Tornadoes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
