Football Game Preview: Slaton Tigers vs. Littlefield Wildcats

Slaton is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the Littlefield Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

It was a proper cat-fight when Slaton took on Dimmitt on Friday. The Tigers managed a 21-15 win over the Bobcats. The 21-point effort marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Jacob Lopez looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 142 yards and one touchdown on only 13 passes, while also punching in one score on the ground. A healthy portion of Lopez's aerial production (90 yards to be exact) went to Z'Qedrian Whaley.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Slaton proved: they limited Dimmitt to a paltry 0.4 yards per carry. The Tigers' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 2.4.

Meanwhile, Littlefield strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They strolled past Coahoma with points to spare, taking the game 35-21. Littlefield's victory was all the more impressive since the Bulldogs were averaging only 12 points allowed on the season.

Slaton's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Littlefield, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Things could have been worse for Slaton, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-36 loss to Littlefield when the teams last played back in October of 2024.
