Basketball Recap: Sweetwater Comes Up Short

Sweetwater lost against McMinn Central two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Sweetwater Wildcats were outmatched by the McMinn Central Chargers and fell 82-30. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Chargers are ranked eighth).

Despite the loss, Sweetwater saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lilly Woodruff posted 16 points and seven rebounds. The match was Woodruff's fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Sweetwater has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season. As for McMinn Central, the win was the 21st in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-1.

Sweetwater will head out on the road to challenge Tellico Plains at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for McMinn Central, they will welcome Polk County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in McMinn Central's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 17 contests.
