Basketball Recap: Nelsonville-York Takes a Loss

Nelsonville-York was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 64-36 loss at the hands of the Athens Bulldogs. The Buckeyes were probably out for revenge after losing 67-46 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Buckeyes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Madi Pidcock, who posted 16 points and six rebounds. Alayna Okulich was another key player, putting up 15 points and eight boards.

Asa Holcombe was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double on 21 points and nine rebounds for Athens. Holcombe is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ella Chapman, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

Nelsonville-York's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Athens, their record now sits at 9-2.

Nelsonville-York wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 68-43 loss against Vinton County on the 13th. As for Athens, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-38 win against River Valley on the 16th.
