Basketball Recap: Coconut Creek Falls Despite Big Games from Ma?Kylah Menard and Abigail Theophile

After flying high against Monarch last Thursday, Coconut Creek came back down to earth. The Coconut Creek Cougars lost to the Coral Springs Charter Panthers at home by a 62-44 margin on Monday. The Cougars have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Coconut Creek's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Abigail Theophile, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 boards, and Ma?Kylah Menard, who posted 12 points and seven steals. Theophile is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Arial Jackson was another key player, putting up five points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Coconut Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive games.

Coconut Creek now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Coral Springs Charter, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-5.

As for Coral Springs Charter, they will face off against St. Thomas Aquinas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Thomas Aquinas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
