Mountain Island Charter triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Christan Jones

Recap: Mountain Island Charter Raptor vs. Queen's Grant Stallions

The Mountain Island Charter Raptor put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 88-79 win over Queen's Grant. Given Mountain Island Charter's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while Queen's Grant is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Christan Jones was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tavien Julius, who scored 6 points along with 7 assists.

Garrett Morgan and Jermaine Moncrieffe certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Morgan scored 27 points along with 9 assists and 5 rebounds, while Moncrieffe scored 12 points along with 9 rebounds and 7 blocks. The game was Morgan's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darian Nhek, who scored 13 points.

Even though they lost, Queen's Grant were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain Island Charter only pulled down 12.

Mountain Island Charter's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. As for Queen's Grant, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mountain Island Charter will take on Valor Preparatory Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Valor Preparatory Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six last Monday. As for Queen's Grant, they will be playing in front of their home fans against University Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
