Baseball Recap: Vanden's Losing Streak Snapped at Four Games

There's no place like home for Vanden, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the River City Raiders on Thursday. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Raiders last Tuesday, they had to take a 10-6 defeat.

Ryan Cahalan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Gabriel Cruz and Kekoa Grinton did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Grinton went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Cruz also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Daevion Lindsay, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Vanden moved to 3-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for River City, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.

Vanden didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 5-2 victory against Fairfield on the 15th. As for River City, they have also already played their next game, a 5-1 win against Wood on the 18th.
