Basketball Recap: Kennedy Andrews Key Part of a Team Effort in Cobras Win

Kirkwood was handed a 35-point loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Springfield Yellow Jackets, sneaking past 39-37. This was a revenge game for the Cobras: when they faced off against the Yellow Jackets back in January, they had to take a 39-37 defeat.

Kirkwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kennedy Andrews out in front who posted ten points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Davia Collins, who put up seven points and five boards.

Despite the loss, Springfield still got an impressive performance from Shemauria Pope, who went 6 for 12 en route to 14 points and eight rebounds. That's the most points Pope has posted since back in February of 2024. Adrianna Hudson was another key player, putting up three points in addition to seven boards and four blocks.

Kirkwood's record now sits at 7-15. As for Springfield, they dropped their record down to 14-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kirkwood will take on West Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Springfield, they will challenge Rossview at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rossview will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Springfield surely won't give up without a fight.
