Baseball Recap: Poland Seminary Gets the Win

Poland Seminary had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 14-run drubbing they dealt Columbiana on Thursday. The Bulldogs never let the Clippers get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Jacob Hayes made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Joe Zuccaro was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Carmine Tukalo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Poland Seminary always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Columbiana only posted an OBP of .176.

Poland Seminary's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Columbiana, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Coming up, Poland Seminary will welcome Struthers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Columbiana, they are headed away from home for the first time to face off against Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
