Basketball Recap: Roncalli Comes Up Short

Roncalli's game on Saturday was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Gibson Southern Titans. The Royals just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Despite the loss, Roncalli still got an impressive performance from Brennah Cerny, who went 7 for 15 on her way to 18 points. Elliot Leffler was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Paige Schnaus continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Gibson Southern, dropping a double-double on 26 points and 17 rebounds. Schnaus continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabby Spink, who posted 14 points and eight rebounds.

Roncalli's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Gibson Southern, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Roncalli will venture away from home to square off against Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Washington's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven matches. As for Gibson Southern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jasper at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Gibson Southern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.
