Softball Game Preview: Springfield Wildcats vs. Northwestern Warriors

The Springfield Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Northwestern Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Springfield has given up an average of 7.9 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Springfield came up short against Fairmont on Friday, falling 11-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Firebirds: they've now lost four in a row.

Springfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jazzdyn Frock, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Meanwhile, Northwestern posted their closest victory since March 28th on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over Tecumseh. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 26, 2018, but that streak is no more.

Olivia Deane was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Shaw, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Northwestern's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-8. As for Springfield, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Springfield suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Northwestern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
