Softball Recap: Grant Comes Up Short

Grant fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Lakeview on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 6-5. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Payton Shoemaker was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over 8.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Logyn Hansen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Lainey VanLoon was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Grant's record is now 10-10. As for Lakeview, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Grant beat Lakeview by a score of 12-6 later that day.
