Football Preview: Brenham Cubs vs. Gilmer Buckeyes
The Brenham Cubs will venture away from home to take on the Gilmer Buckeyes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Brenham will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
Brenham is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Killeen at home to the tune of 73-42 on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Cubs, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Brenham can attribute much of their success to Hagen Frank, who picked up 90 receiving yards and a touchdown. Frank torched the secondary when he pulled down a catch that went for 90 yards.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Brenham was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 349 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2023.
Brenham's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Doyle Brown and Quincy Adams.
Meanwhile, Gilmer won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Lindale 37-36. Given the Buckeyes' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 77th, while the Eagles are ranked 245th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gilmer found their leader in underclassman Zade Taylor, who rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Brenham's record is now 4-0. As for Gilmer, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-2.
