Softball Recap: Woodford County Wins Going Away Against Shelby County

Woodford County never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Shelby County Rockets with a sharp 12-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Yellowjackets in their matchups with the Rockets: they've now won eight in a row.

Sophia Gannon and Kylie Stamper made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gannon struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Stamper pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Gannon has posted since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Gannon scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Stamper scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Addie Bryant and Norah Ashburn did most of the damage at the plate: Bryant went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Ashburn got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Bryant has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brianna Coovert, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Woodford County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Woodford County's victory bumped their record up to 4-5-1. As for Shelby County, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-7.
