Baseball Recap: Southwest Virginia Academy Comes Up Short

Southwest Virginia Academy extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-3 in the process. They lost 11-0 to the Blue Ridge Jays. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Jays this season, with their most recent defeat being a 14-0 loss last Monday.

As for Blue Ridge, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-6 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10 runs.

For Blue Ridge's part, Paul Berry made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Berry has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Blue Ridge got a massive performance out of Lochlan 'Bear' Paul, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Josh Craig was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Blue Ridge beat Southwest Virginia Academy by a score of 10-0 later that day.
