Softball Recap: Peotone Extends Winning Streak to Five

Peotone won against Reed-Custer on Monday with three runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Blue Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Comets 3-1. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Devils sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Sophie Klawitter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Johnson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one double. Ava Kosmos was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Peotone's victory bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Reed-Custer, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Coming up, Peotone will host Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Reed-Custer, they will venture away from home to square off against Coal City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
