Baseball Recap: Braxton County Takes a Loss

Braxton County lost against Roane County two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Eagles fell 17-13 to the Raiders. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Luke Kelly was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Noah Skidmore was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Logan Baldwin, who went 2-for-6 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Braxton County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Roane County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-8 record this season.

Braxton County will venture away from home to face off against Nitro at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Roane County, they will host Buffalo at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
