Football Recap: Buena Comes Up Short

Buena lost against Ventura back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bulldogs were outmatched by the Cougars and fell 62-13. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 427th, while the Cougars are ranked 159th).

When it comes to explaining why Buena lost, don't look at Jaxon Roberts. Despite the final result, he rushed for 54 yards and a pair of scores. Roberts also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Bulldogs are 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

A big part of Ventura's win came down to the chemistry between Derek Garcia and his top target Tristan Savage. Garcia threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes while Savage gained 105 total yards and four touchdowns. What's more, Savage posted two receiving touchdowns, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Miller Glasgow was another key back, rushing for 66 yards and one TD on only eight carries.

This is the second loss in a row for Buena and nudges their season record down to 2-4. As for Ventura, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Buena will welcome Royal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ventura, they will face off against Moorpark at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Musketeers' defense has only allowed 11.2 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them.
