Football Recap: Buena Takes a Loss

Buena lost against Ventura back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bulldogs had to suffer through a 62-13 loss at the hands of the Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 527th, while the Cougars are ranked 198th).

Despite the loss, Buena still got an impressive performance from Jaxon Roberts, who rushed for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Roberts has become a key player for the Bulldogs: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

A big part of Ventura's victory came down to the chemistry between Derek Garcia and his top target Tristan Savage. Garcia threw for 253 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 72.2% of his passes while Savage gained 105 total yards and four touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Savage a new career-high in receiving yards (86). Miller Glasgow was another key rusher, rushing for 66 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Buena has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Ventura, they pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Buena is set to face off against their familiar foe Royal at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Ventura will take on rival Moorpark at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Garcia and Logan Moon.
