Basketball Recap: Columbus Christian Comes Up Short

Columbus Christian suffered their biggest defeat since January 25th on Monday. They were outmatched by the South Decatur Cougars and fell 54-27. The Crusaders have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Columbus Christian lost, don't look at Olivia Wise. Despite the final result, she went 5-for-9 en route to 10 points and three steals. Wise is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Katie Bond, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

South Decatur found their leader in sophomore Raegan Benge, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 16 boards. Benge also set a new season-high mark in steals with four. Taylor Somers was another key player, putting up four points along with six assists and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Columbus Christian fell to 2-1. As for South Decatur, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Looking ahead, Columbus Christian will take on Suburban Christian at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. As for South Decatur, they have already played their next game, a 60-34 loss against South Ripley on the 18th.
