Baseball Recap: Clearwater Has No Trouble Against Tarpon Springs

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Clearwater and Tarpon Springs meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Tornadoes were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Spongers. Considering the Tornadoes have won eight matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dylan Wood and Carlos Alfredo made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Wood didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Alfredo tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Wood went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Alfredo scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three RBI gave Wood a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on George Tzorbatzoglou, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Clearwater always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.

Clearwater pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Tarpon Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-14 record this season.

Clearwater wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 24-2 win against Gibbs on the 9th. As for Tarpon Springs, they have also already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Anclote on the 10th.
