Basketball Recap: Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders vs. Bishop Ireton Cardinals
It was a good run, but the Monsignor Scanlan Crusaders unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Sunday. The match between them and Bishop Ireton wasn't particularly close, with Monsignor Scanlan falling 62-44.
Bishop Ireton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nyla Brooks, who scored 19 points. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amirah Anderson, who scored 19 points.
Monsignor Scanlan's defeat dropped their record down to 11-2. As for Bishop Ireton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Monsignor Scanlan will be playing in front of their home fans against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bishop Loughlin will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New York Rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Crusaders are ranked first). As for Bishop Ireton, they and the Knights will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully St. Mary's Ryken focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Sunday.
