Baseball Game Preview: Edinburg Bobcats vs. Weslaco Panthers

The Edinburg Bobcats will challenge the Weslaco Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edinburg will be strutting in after a victory while Weslaco will be coming in after a defeat.

It was a proper cat-fight when Edinburg took on Economedes on Friday. The Bobcats walked away with a 4-1 win over the Jaguars. That's two games straight that the Bobcats have won by exactly three runs.

The team relied heavily on Jude Vega, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Israel Martinez, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Weslaco has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.17 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, falling 13-3. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost six in a row.

Weslaco saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Toby Perez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Perez has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Jesse James Cantu also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Weslaco's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8-1. As for Edinburg, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-13 record this season.
