Basketball Recap: North Valleys Falls Short Against Ranked Pyramid Lake

On Monday, North Valleys faced Pyramid Lake in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The North Valleys Panthers took a 57-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pyramid Lake Lakers. The defeat continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Lakers: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, North Valleys still got an impressive performance from Ivy Williams, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 19 boards. That was a full 41.2% of North Valleys' points, marking the third time in a row Williams has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Huff, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 18 points.

Even though they lost, North Valleys smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

It was another big night for Kaitlin Mandell, who went 6-for-10 from beyond the arc to rack up 20 points and five steals for Pyramid Lake. Mandell has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Olivia Lara was another key player, going 5-for-7 en route to 11 points.

North Valleys' loss dropped their record down to 19-4. As for Pyramid Lake, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.

North Valleys didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-29 victory against Hug on the 5th. As for Pyramid Lake, they have also already played their next matchup, a 73-25 win against Smith Valley on the 6th.
