Basketball Recap: South Mountain Takes a Loss

South Mountain lost against Browne back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South Mountain Jaguars took a 67-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Browne Bruins. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Loss or not, South Mountain got some senior leadership from Kaedience Koronich and Richci Anitak. Koronich dropped a double-double with 20 points and 13 boards, while Anitak went 6 for 9 to rack up 15 points and four steals. Koronich's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliah Dixon Jr., who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, South Mountain was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Browne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tony Bayigamba, who almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Bayigamba is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games he's played. Dee Shaw was another key player, putting up 17 points and six boards.

South Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Browne, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-15.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Maryvale the next time they take the court. South Mountain will host Maryvale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Browne will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
