Baseball Game Preview: New Castle Trojans vs. Delta Eagles

For the second straight game, New Castle will face off against Delta. The Trojans will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Delta hit New Castle with a eight-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell 9-5 to the Eagles. The loss continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost four in a row.

For Delta's part, Myles Enos looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Enos has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Everrett Linn, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Delta's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Chase Ritchie also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The victory (which was Delta's third in a row) raised their record to 4-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for New Castle, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
