Pinewood Christian had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 24-14 victory over the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders on Thursday. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Patriots were the (much) better team in the second half.

Pinewood Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Banks Hearn led the charge by rushing for 95 yards and a pair of TDs. Sam Wasson helped out on the ground, rushing for 134 yards and a rushing touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Pinewood Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robert Toombs Christian Academy only rushed for 98 rushing yards.

Despite the defeat, Robert Toombs Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Drew Edwards rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries, and also threw for 148 yards and one TD on only 13 passes. The Crusaders' leading receiver Anthony Mitchell Cook Jr was Edwards' top target yet again, picking up 105 receiving yards and one score.

Coming up, Pinewood Christian will face off against Brentwood at 7:30 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Robert Toombs Christian Academy, they will challenge Edmund Burke Academy at 7:30 p.m. on the 22nd.
