Basketball Recap: Baptist Hill Takes a Loss

If Baptist Hill was riding high fresh off their 67-27 takedown of Hardeeville last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Baptist Hill Bobcats were outmatched by the Burke Bulldogs and fell 52-9. The game marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Burke's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathaya Phoenix led the charge by going 7 of 12 on her way to 14 points along with six assists and six steals. Phoenix is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Smith, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to eight steals and six boards.

Baptist Hill's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-4. As for Burke, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-4.

Baptist Hill will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Porter-Gaud at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for Burke, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-44 victory against St. Vincent's on the 21st.
