Preview: Sunset Apollos vs. Westview Wildcats

Sunset is 2-8 against Westview since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sunset Apollos will head out on the road to challenge the Westview Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Sunset focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Tuesday.

Sunset can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent contest. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 67-30 victory over Aloha. Given Sunset's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while Aloha is ranked 243rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ruby Foord was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds and five steals. It was the first time this season that she scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Rosa Martinez-Escobedo, who scored seven points along with five steals.

Meanwhile, Westview was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 34-30 to Southridge.

Despite the defeat, Westview got a solid performance out of Dara Oluwafemi, who scored 23 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Elms, who scored no points along with six steals.

Sunset's win bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Westview, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Sunset have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Westview struggles in that department as they've been averaging 23.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Sunset came out on top in a nail-biter against Westview when the teams last played back in January, sneaking past 46-43. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sunset since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
