Basketball Game Preview: Platt Panthers vs. Newington Nor'easters

Platt hasn't had much luck against Newington recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Platt Panthers are taking a road trip to challenge the Newington Nor'easters at 6:30 p.m.

Platt is headed into Tuesday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their seventh straight game on Friday. They were dealt a 62-27 loss at the hands of Rocky Hill. The match marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Meanwhile, Newington entered their tilt with Wethersfield on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Eagles 49-28. Given the Nor'easters' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Eagles are ranked 116th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Newington had a senior duo take command as Kendall Miller posted ten points in addition to seven boards and five steals and Hope Romanello made all 7 shots she took racking up 15 points and eight rebounds. Miller is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jilian Bouchard, who put up nine points and three steals.

Newington was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Newington has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Platt, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Platt was dealt a bruising 71-32 loss at the hands of Newington in their previous meeting back in March of 2021. Can Platt avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
