Basketball Game Preview: Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles vs. Tremont Eagles

Tupelo Christian Prep and Tremont are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2018, but not for long. The Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles will welcome the Tremont Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with 14 consecutive losses dating back to last season for Tupelo Christian Prep and three for Tremont.

Last Tuesday, Tupelo Christian Prep had to suffer through a 70-21 loss at the hands of Biggersville. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 269th, while the Lions are ranked 52nd).

Meanwhile, Tremont suffered their biggest loss since December 5, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against Thrasher, falling 56-30.

Tupelo Christian Prep will have to keep a close watch on Olivia Gillespie and Sarah Sims, a pair of players who had a big impact on Tremont's prior game. Gillespie went 6 for 14 en route to 15 points and six rebounds, while Sims posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Tremont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in eight consecutive games.

Tupelo Christian Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Tremont, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Tupelo Christian Prep was taken down by Tremont 49-14 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gillespie, who went 9 of 15 on her way to 20 points along with seven boards and three steals. Now that Tupelo Christian Prep knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
