Softball Game Preview: Desert Christian Knights vs. Vasquez Mustangs

Desert Christian hasn't had much luck against Vasquez recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Desert Christian is taking a road trip to square off against Vasquez at 3:15 p.m. One thing working in Desert Christian's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.

Desert Christian proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 13) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Antelope Valley, sneaking past 14-13. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Antelopes recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Vasquez posted their closest win since April 20, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Faith Baptist.

Madisyn Wharton made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). Wharton was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Daniella Escamilla and Mariah Pulido did most of the damage at the plate: Escamilla scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Pulido went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits Pulido has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Sadie Mendoza, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Vasquez is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. Desert Christian's record now sits at 5-8.

Desert Christian suffered a grim 19-7 defeat to Vasquez when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Desert Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
