Basketball Preview: Blue Ridge Christian Warriors vs. Whitefield Academy Lions
The Blue Ridge Christian Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Whitefield Academy Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Blue Ridge Christian comes in on five and the Lions on three.
Blue Ridge Christian scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Heritage Christian 75-50. That looming 75-50 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Blue Ridge Christian yet this season.
Blue Ridge Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Pennbrook Shaver led the charge by scoring 33 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Shaver has scored all season. Kaleb Price was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds.
Whitefield Academy proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 32) but on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against The Daniel Academy and snuck past 48-45. Given Whitefield Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 187th, while the Lions are ranked 405th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blue Ridge Christian's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Whitefield Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Blue Ridge Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Lions in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 73-69 win. Does Blue Ridge Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
