Baseball Game Preview: Maiden Blue Devils vs. Newton-Conover Red Devils

The Maiden Blue Devils will challenge the Newton-Conover Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maiden has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 2nd.

On Tuesday, Maiden didn't have quite enough to beat East Lincoln and fell 4-3.

Blake Lackey and Hayden Haynes stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lackey went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Haynes went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Newton-Conover owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They blew past Foard 7-0. The win continues a trend for the Red Devils in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Dylan McElhone made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Zevion Williams was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Kobe Windsor was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Newton-Conover kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Newton-Conover's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Maiden, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-14.
