Basketball Game Preview: Spackenkill Spartans vs. New Paltz Huguenots

Having just played yesterday, the Spackenkill Spartans will get right back to it and host the New Paltz Huguenots at 5:45 p.m. on Friday. Spackenkill will be strutting in after a victory while New Paltz will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, Spackenkill was able to grind out a solid win over Onteora, taking the game 42-31. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Meanwhile, New Paltz was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 44-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of Rondout Valley.

Spackenkill will have to keep a close watch on Callie Meyer and Charletta Goode, a pair of players who had a big impact on New Paltz's prior game. Meyer posted three points in addition to 16 rebounds and four steals, while Goode put up seven points and five boards. Meyer has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.

Even though they lost, New Paltz smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Spackenkill's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for New Paltz, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.

Spackenkill strolled past New Paltz in their previous meeting on January 7th by a score of 44-30. Will Spackenkill repeat their success, or does New Paltz have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
