Baseball Game Preview: Great Bridge Wildcats vs. Indian River Braves

Great Bridge is 8-2 against Indian River since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Braves at 5:45 p.m. Great Bridge will be strutting in after a victory while Indian River will be coming in after a defeat.

While Great Bridge's win against Lakeland wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats skirted past the Cavaliers 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

The team relied heavily on Jaxen Whitehurst, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last five contests.

Meanwhile, Indian River didn't have quite enough to beat Nansemond River on Thursday and fell 10-9. The Braves have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ace Chambers was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off seven hits.

At the plate, Logan Delahunt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jack Emerick was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Great Bridge's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Indian River, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Everything went Great Bridge's way against Indian River when the teams last played back in April, as Great Bridge made off with an 11-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
