Baseball Game Preview: Providence Pioneers vs. Eastern Musketeers

Providence is a perfect 10-0 against Eastern since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pioneers will challenge the Musketeers at 5:30 p.m. Providence is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Providence came out on top against Lanesville on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Pioneers blew past the Eagles 11-4. The Pioneers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.

Cooper Nash looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Jackson, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 5-for-6. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lincoln Kruer, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Eastern started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Christian Academy. They came up short against the Warriors on Thursday, falling 14-4. The loss continues a trend for the Musketeers in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

Providence is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Eastern, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

Everything went Providence's way against Eastern when the teams last played back in April, as Providence made off with an 18-0 win. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Musketeers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
