Baseball Recap: Boys Latin Extends Home Winning Streak to Eight

Boys Latin had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt St. John's Catholic Prep on Wednesday. The Lakers were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Vikings. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

PJ Martino made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Cayden Musick looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Mark Windle, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Barrett, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Boys Latin pushed their record up to 15-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.

Coming up, Boys Latin will venture away from home to take on Annapolis Area Christian at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for St. John's Catholic Prep, they will host St. Mary's at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Vikings are facing the Saints at the right time seeing as the Saints are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
