The Heritage Mountaineers will challenge the Loudon Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Heritage will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
On Wednesday, Heritage made easy work of South-Doyle and carried off a 12-2 victory. The Mountaineers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matches by six runs or more this season.
Derek Hodge looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gavin Hughes, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Webb, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Loudon sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over Sequoyah on Wednesday.
Logan Moore was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Loudon is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-14 otherwise. Moore was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryer Oody was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Heritage's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Loudon, their victory bumped their record up to 12-16.
Loudon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Heritage hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .325. It's a different story for Loudon, though, as they've only averaged .217. Will they be able to contain Heritage's hitters?
Heritage took their win against Loudon in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Mountaineers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redskins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
